Andrew Jefford | Pale silver-gold, with some latent spritz pearling the sides of the glass. Animal-spicy scents: some clean, sweet muskiness, and a whisper of smoulder, like the ash of a fall bonfire that has come through winter. Autumnal fruits, too, rather than the classic grapefruit citrus: dessert apple, a hint of pomegranate. Complex and attractive aromas. Complex on the palate, also, with a layered flavor, and ample density and glow to the autumn fruits; rounded and not coruscatingly trocken. Thoroughly characterful in terms of its aromatic finesse and personality, yet not so much so that drinking the wine becomes an ordeal. A benchmark effort for this dryer style. | 91
Anne Krebiechl | A touch of honey precedes notes of green pear and lemon on the nose. The palate then plays a game of slender freshness, colored with all manner of fruity notions: pineapple, green pear, frozen Mirabelle plum, and ripe but zesty lemon. A lovely, moreish, and most appetizing wine, with clear fruit expression and lots of freshness giving Sauvignon Blanc a run for its money. The tropical aftertaste lingers. | 91
Stephan Reinhardt | Radiant bright in its citrus color, this Scheu is self-confident but elegant on the fruit-intense but also fine and spicy, slightly mineral nose, with its fresh crushed stones flavors. On the palate, this is a mouth-filling, nicely textured, and very fruity wine, with a discreet mineral fundament and a lingering, stimulating acidity and grip. Somewhat too sweet and loud for my taste, but this is really good and ambitious wine. 2020–24. | 87
