Andrew Jefford | Saturated dark black-red in color. The aromas are raw and youthful still on the nose, needing some time to settle and refine. There’s a sense, though, of constrained power here, of Christmas spice, of roots and of earth: complex and promising. The refinement only increases with time in the glass. On the palate, the wine is less structured, full, and beefy than the Talbot that preceded it in the tasting, though it has greater concentration and intensity. In place of the beefiness you’ll find very pure, softly tannic fruits: a long curl of blackcurrant, swirling and licking toward the finish. The aromatic complexity evident on the nose is less evident on the palate, perhaps because the always-dominant acidity of 2014 occludes it, but it is there nonetheless and lends this wine polish and class. 2018–25. | 90
Michael Schuster | Closed, cedary, aromatic nose; medium-full, fresh, finely but firmly tannic; still very youthful to taste, but with a very nice fruit core, sappy, long, moderately complex, with good persistence. Will need 5–7 years in bottle at least. 2025–35+. | 90
