BUY THE WINE

Simon Field | Seductive, almost balsamic nose; spice and crushed stones, cherry, raspberry, and a whiff of tobacco. Modern without forsaking the traditional values, rich and ripe without losing sight of the leitmotif of rigorous acidity. All in all, finely tuned, robust, and very impressive. | 92

Andrew Jefford | Dense, deep black-red. A rather undigested, slightly yogurty scent and some reduction, too: not wholly attractive. Deep, firm, gutsy, and chunky on the palate, and on the palate I don’t find the same dissuasive notes that the aromas threw up. A chunky, serious effort, but the aromatic issues hold its score in check somewhat. | 87

Charles Metcalfe | Dark, rich, earthy, with more than a hint of the stable. This is slightly affected by Brett, which may well dry it out further with more time in bottle. It’s okay at present—slightly rustic, with firmish tannins and good acidity—but is not a wine to keep much longer. | 79
