Michael Edwards | A fine style of Valmur fitting the 2016 harvest like a glove in the classic mold of this grand cru's essential character—finesse and punch in equal measure. Bright straw, gold lights; panoply of complex floral aromas, lemon, lilac, pêche de vignes, then smoke, lanolin, and the aerating effect of careful oaking. Bottled early to preserve the fruit and avoid overconcentration, the palate has noble energy and thrust, real mineral presence, beautiful acidity. Saline finish. Deceptively forward, but will keep well—to 2025. | 95
