BUY THE WINE

Bruno Besa | Garnet to tawny. A touch closed on the nose, mineral and complex, with graphite, road tar, rosewater, leather, cedarwood, and fresh rosemary. Complex, compact, refined yet massive palate. Super-long, with an intense cranberry and red-cherry finish. | 97

Stephen Brook | Rather gawky, oaky nose, with the fruit subdued. The attack is surprisingly soft and lacking in lift and energy. There’s power but little finesse or nuance, and the tannins are a touch dry. A blunt instrument. | 86

Andrew Jefford | Bright and limpid clear red. Very attractive aromas here: sweet ripe fruits, lovely spices, perfume grasses and warm underbrush. Magnificent ripeness evoked, but without any of the sweet, jammy excess that mars some of the other wines in this tasting. Poised, fragrant, enticing. On the palate, this is smooth, long, burnished, and refined, with great purity and aromatic lift. Sumptuous and classical Serralunga Barolo for sipping late into the night. | 94
