BUY THE WINE

Bruno Besa | Garnet to pink. Closed nose, with small, wild red fruits, leather, tobacco, black olives, rosewater, and hints of petrol. High-tone, challenging palate, with high acidity and prominent tannins. Quite unbalanced at present—only time can tell. | 89

Stephen Brook | Perfumed red-fruits nose, raspberries and mint. Graceful attack for Serralunga, though the tannins kick in fast enough. Indeed, there’s a certain skinniness here, and the fruit is too subdued. Good acidity keeps it fresh but I wonder whether the fruit will reemerge. | 86

Andrew Jefford | Light, clear, and limpid deep red. Warm, sweet scents in which sweet fruit mingles with pounded nuts and the forest complexities one hopes to find in these wines. Not a subtle or refined aroma, however. On the palate, this is rich, exuberant, lively, vigorous, and long, with a generous tannin profile and plenty of drive and follow-through. A firm, squeezed finish, with notes of root spice. Lots to enjoy here. | 87
