Bruno Besa | Garnet to tawny. Intense, but still a touch closed on the mineral nose, with plums and candied orange and hints of nuts and petrol. Round, sweet fruit, with balanced tannins and a long, herbal finish. Classic Monforte, generous Barolo. | 90
Stephen Brook | Rich but discreet red-fruits nose. Soft attack, a bit cushiony, and though there are ripe tannins and fair acidity, the palate doesn’t lift. This is worryingly forward and plump, grinding to a halt on the mid-palate. Where’s the structure? An enjoyable, even luxurious and fruit-forward wine, but Barolo needs more than that. | 86
Andrew Jefford | Clear and glowing red. Fine aromatic refinement here. Elegant, sustained, and long, with lifted red fruits and some fine tar, leather, and spice: very enticing. On the palate, this is a dramatic wine (with the sculpted cheekbones of the vintage), but rewarding and satisfying, too. Not quite as concentrated as some, but stylistically very well crafted and judged. Beautiful drinking. | 92
