Simon Field: Glossy and slightly showy in style - sweetness with a caramel trimming. Commercially adroit and seductive, especially at the front of the mouth. Ripe, creamy fruit, but perhaps structurally challenged and missing a certain Palladian rigour. 15

Richard Mayson: Dense. Closed but with underlying richness and opulence. Dark chocolate, too. Big, ripe and opulent in the mouth, with solid, broad tannins rising in the mouth. Massive. Very impressive peacock’s tail of a finish. Great wine. One of the best of the vintage. 17

Jancis Robinson: Dark purplish crimson. Very sweet, almost raisin-like nose. Slightly woody. Lusciously sweet but the tannins are not immediately obvious; they close in on the finish, however. The spirit is quite dominant. A bigger wine than the Quinta dos Canais. 14
