BUY THE WINE

Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: One of the greatest second wines this vintage: admirably well-defined aromatic profile (even more precise than the grand vin, if less vinous) and considerable finesse. Wonderful tannic mouthfeel. 16.5

Margaret Rand: Chewy, tough tannins with a dry edge, but plenty of fruit and a big finish. Dense, assertive, muscular and tight. 18.5

Michael Schuster: Very elegantly balanced, medium-weight, with a ‘plush’ generosity and supple nature that belies its unusually high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon (73%). Fresh, delicately rich, sweetly ripe, blackberry-fruited, refined and gently persistent in the mouth, with excellent fruit length. Stylish Bahans; very good second wine. 15.5/16
