Jancis Robinson: Ruby. Slightly ‘off’, gamey with hints of deep, dark fruit. Big structure but tannins prominent and fruit occluded. A bit astringent on the finish – possible development, but not promising. 14.5

Jeremy Watson: This has a bit more character, but the comments for the 2001 Marqués de Haro Reserva remain much the same. Perhaps there is a discussion point here that differentiates wines sold as jóvenes or cosecha (that is, with no ageing or less than 12 months in oak) and those to be sold as reservas especially. Wines aged for 36 months between barrel and bottle are intended to be very different to the younger, high-extract wines. 15
