Oz Clarke: Rich dark fruit and good oak. Attractive, intense, rather Tuscan fruit, deep but dry and challenging, promising a maturity of black chocolate and cherries and nuts – so long as you get through the tannins first. Well, they’re pretty Tuscan too, and over there – with Sangiovese and Cabernet – the wines do usually finally mature pretty well. So I’m going to presume that in 5–8 years’ time, this’ll be a deep, rather haughty, but satisfying red. 17
Alex Hunt: Lovely blend of hedgerow fruit and subtle vanilla oak. This is a dense, vigorous young wine, still very primary, with firm acidity and well-judged tannin. A few more years in bottle should see it blossom. 17.5
Margaret Rand: Very Bordelais in structure and ripeness. Since I like Bordeaux, I have no quarrels with that. Quite austere, perfumed, figgy fruit. Tannins are pronounced but not massive. Tight, quite closed still, good length. Promising: it needs a couple of years to be really expressive. 16.5
