Oz Clarke: Dark red. Thick, viscous, rich nose, slightly baked. Palate is baked and extractive. Deep, strong, but not very enjoyable. Rough tannin, stewed cherry fruit and a little baked plum. Solid, serious but not very satisfying, and a little rough for social drinking. 14.5

Alex Hunt: Very classic aromatic mixture of cassis and toasty oak. This is very typical high-quality Napa: refined yet generous fruit, strong varietal expression, yet a degree of savouriness that roots it in its origins. Fine proportion and liquorice complexity on the finish. 17.5

Margaret Rand: Very nice, perfumed, complex nose – coffee, figs, chocolate, cedar – that carries through to the palate. Structured, firm, pronounced tannins; quite a heavyweight wine that has everything in balance and in proportion. Complex and fascinating. Length is outstanding. Complex and serious. 18.5
