Oz Clarke: Fairly deep red. Good: some complexity, some gentleness and mellow fruit to go with the tannin. Good, attractive; some slightly smoky oak and fairly deep stewed plum fruit (that’s a compliment! My mum makes very good stewed plums) and hint of menthol. Nice balance. This’ll age pretty well, the palate slowly grows and gets good Tuscan herb to go with the dark, black-hearted fruit. 17
Alex Hunt: Closed, but excellent depth and a very detailed quality to the fruit. Unfortunately, on the palate this seems pushed a bit far. The fruit is a little too ripe, too concentrated, and the tannins slightly overwrought. The overall feel is stodgy and inelegant, despite the obvious qualities in the wine. 14
Margaret Rand: Leathery, tannic, mature. It’s good, but the tannins are a bit dry, and it is tasting quite old for a four-year-old. 13
