Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Restrained, black-cherry nose, and a touch of mint. Medium-bodied, sleek, quite concentrated, with a core of sweet fruit. This is balanced and close to charming. It may lack some depth but has far more overt fruit and intensity than Batailleys of yore. Quite forward, though there are sufficient tannins to give grip and cellaring potential. Long, sweet (but not jammy) finish. 15
Andrew Jefford: Dark black-red. Warm and refined, fully ripe, perfumed, and enticing. An excellent aromatic profile for Batailley. Exuberantly curranty. There isn’t a lot beyond the currants, but they soar out on a long riff that you’d have to be wooden-palated not to enjoy. Tasty, down-home claret drinking for the short to medium term. 14.5
