Neil Beckett: Medium ruby of moderate intensity and a natural lustre. Reduced, but unlike the Chapelle-Chambertin from the same producer, not so badly as to obscure the qualities of the wine. After aeration the considerable complexity gradually started to show – floral, faintly nutty, gently spicy (nutmeg). Medium body, and so finely knit as to flow, with a supremely silky, supple texture. The adequate, seemingly natural acidity and beautifully drawn, fully ripe tannins also contribute to the elegance and finesse (rara avis this vintage). Not grandiose, but naturally expressive, exquisitely poised wine, where the pedigree of the site has been allowed to show through.
