Neil Beckett: Medium ruby. Enchanting nose of cherries in brandy. The Griotte has nothing to do with morello cherries (being derived instead, like the Criots in Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, from craie or criotte, referring to the chalk in the soil). But cherries do nevertheless reappear on the palate with great intensity and persistence. Another beautifully extracted, naturally expressive, perfectly ripe, supremely seductive wine, which in its complexity and harmony seems to reflect its position in the middle of four other Gevrey grands crus – Chambertin, Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze and Chapelle- and Charmes-Chambertin.
