BUY THE WINE

Nicolas Belfrage: Good grip and plenty of cherry character amid the oak, but morello cherry rather than sour cherry. Falls away at the back and loses character, however, while retaining good drinkability. 14

Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Closed nose. Very rich, plummy, succulent black fruit. Dense but not too extracted. Good acidity, too. Spicy aftertaste, quite chocolaty. It doesn't shout Sangiovese, but it’s a good wine. Good length. 18

Alison Buchanan: Opaque, black-shot plum, with a dark-cherry rim. Very sweet nose of caram elised fruit, with a mineral character. Some pencil shavings and hot stewed fruit. Toasty oak comes through on the palate, leading the way for well-extracted dark fruit, pepper, caramel and spice - a big wine. Very sweet and aim ing at seduction. Modern style, but good balance, though. 18
