BUY THE WINE

Nicolas Belfrage: Alcohol comes through on the nose: Porty. A big wine, with generous fruit not overcome by oak. A little raw on the finish, but it has character of a muscular sort. 15

Stephen Brook: Deep red. Firm, smoky nose, with bright cherry fruit. Rich, plump, juicy and very concentrated. Big ripe tannins, and peppery. It would be overpowering if it weren't for its lovely fresh acidity. Very elegant. Very good length, with a spicy finish. 19

Alison Buchanan: Richly textured, gorgeous colour - black-shot ruby of stained-glass brilliance. Very, very sweet nose - toffee. The palate is quite bizarre. I was lured into an anticipation of sweet fruit but suddenly there’s an onslaught of dry, mouth -puckering tannins and dried autumnal fruit. A very, very austere finish. 11
