BUY THE WINE

Michael Schuster: Harmonious, fragrant complex of minerals and ripe fruit on the nose; excellent, fairly full-bodied balance, firmly but very finely tannic, compact but supremely elegant; long in the mouth, sweet-fruited, subtle, racy, scented, multifaceted wine; succulent, delicately gravelly and with a wonderful persistence of scent. Splendid long-term Lafite. 18.5/19

Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: Intense colour and dense nose, with whiffs of cedar and red berries. This wine has it all: depth and maturity, ultra-fine, tight tannins, bags of style and a superb balance of generous texture, close-grained substance and taut tannins. A huge Lafite, supremely classical despite the bizarre vintage (that positively transformed the Latour). To our minds, even more sharply defined than the 1990.19
