BUY THE WINE

Nicolas Belfrage: A wine aiming at pleasing the international market while preserving the character of Sangioese. Nose isn’t particularly developed but there is a lot of concentrated but now out-of-balance fruit on the palate. Plenty to it and pretty good balance, will start to show around 2012 and will last another 20 years. 17

Roy Richards Another over-deep wine with a surprising menthol nose. This is concentrated, forward, Bourneville chocolate, but probably quite good. Needs more acidity to lift it. 15

Franco Ziliani: Very dark color, inky, not Sangiovese style. The nose is very concentrated, overripe, slightly sweet, with spices coffee and chocolate notes: this is not a Sangiovese from Montalcino in its mood... Bitter, dry, astringent, boring wine. 10
