Patricio Tapia: A year with very good ripeness and little rainfall (a mere 1.1in [30mm] between January and April) produced grapes with very good concentration. After the “texture trauma” of 1994, however, Morandé decided to include another variety in the blend for the first time, adding 3 percent Merlot from the same vineyard to lend smoothness. He also decided to filter again. The result is an extremely complex and elegant wine that recovers the typical Tocornal suavity of texture, while also offering red fruit, spices, and herbal notes. 17.5 (93)
