Nicolas Belfrage: Deep, virtually opaque. Dark cherry pervades on the nose. Also on the palate, firm tannins and reasonable acidity hold dark fruit—not just cherry but blackberry, blueberry—in place. Normally I would be suspicious of the color, but this strikes me as genuine. Very Sangiovese. 16.5
Bruno Besa: Deep garnet to tawny rim. Clean, youthful, red-fruit nose, with graphite, cherry jam, and hints of violets. Broad, mature palate, clean yet a touch simple. 15
Andrew Jefford: Dense black-red. Earthy, deep, long, somber, smoky; both commanding and subtle. Leather and licorice, too; and perfumer’s cade. An unusually detailed aromatic spectrum. Perhaps the oak is just a little intrusive. The fruit hovers alluringly between plum and prune. Gosh: very grand and multidimensioned on the palate. You can pick out all those aromatic notes given a flavor presence; and they all combine majestically. Statuesque and commanding Tuscan red wine, though much less evidently sensually ripe than many in this vintage. Bravo! 18
