Jasper Morris: “This is the first vintage,” said Etienne, “about which I said this is the best I have made.” Clear bright mid-red. Cheerful, pure, still discreet nose—it was more explosive on decanting. Rich, full, grand cru texture—a real grand cru at last—fabulous through the middle to the back; velvet coat on a fine bone structure. Hits the heady heights, really very fine. No specific fruit flavor but a wonderful combination of them all. Later on, the fruit darkens but won’t stop blossoming. It brings tears to the eyes—perfect balance, offering a wonderful sense of the vineyard and, equally, a sense of the person.
