Stephen Brook: A bit darker and more golden than its rival Climens but then that is usually the case. Lush peachy nose, evident botrytis, honeyed, exuberant. Medium-bodied, sleek, less sweet than some 2003s, good concentration and spiciness, well-integrated oak that is scarcely discernible. Has more weight than persistence. Slightly disappointing, as it shows a lack of complexity as well as length. Certainly a good wine but it does tail off on the finish. 16.5

Michael Schuster: Deepish gold; closed, honeyed, lightly oaky nose; rich and concentrated with a fine balancing acidity; intensely sweet but retaining its Barsac restraint and elegance; pure, liquorous, racy wine, with a certain delicacy in spite of its overall sugar richness; very long across the palate, a really thoroughbred feel, and great length on the finish. Stylish, classic Coutet. A delight already, but decades in hand. 18
