Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: We have no hesitation in declaring this vintage to be the most technically accomplished wine in the recent history of this chateau—even better, in terms of aromatic purity and honest extraction, than anything we have seen (and loved) before. The texture and tannins are unmistakably classy and rank this year’s offering among the best of the Union des Grands Crus St-Julien offerings—which are all quite remarkable! 18.5
Michael Schuster: Fine, scented, ripe fruit nose, gently pebbly; very nicely balanced, firm, fairly concentrated and very elegant, medium-full wine with a fresh acidity and fine, firm tannin; prolonged, refined palate of subtly complex, fresh, gently ripe, scented fruit, and excellent length. Like the Las-Cases, a touch of severity but, that said, a beautifully delineated, long-term, linear Poyferré. 2020–35+. 17/18
