Andrew Jefford: Dark black-red. Not far off opaque. Sweet, earthy, and scented: the first wine of the Margaux flight in which it is possible to find a floral charm. Raspberry fruits; sand and mortar (a sweet stony scent). Less complex and refined than a great vintage would be. Deep, round, firm, and long: certainly the older brother in the Margaux flight this year. This, at any rate, is built for the mid-term. The acidity is very prominent, though, so I would still take it on the early side, even if the tannins remain a little firm. You’ll find it both gracious and driving, with the aromatic complexity that the place promises. It will never be a great Palmer, but it is certainly creditable for the year. 2019–25. 90
Michael Schuster: Closed, but ripe-fruited to smell; rich in the context of the vintage, medium-full, relatively concentrated, firm in acidity, fine in tannin; ripe, sapid, deep in flavor for 2013, long, gently complex, slightly “sturdy” style, for Margaux, and needing time, but with both complexity and length. 2022–33+. 92
