BUY THE WINE

Stephen Brook: The browning on the rim does the wine no favors on the aesthetic front. It looks tired. Smells it, too, with a mature leafy character, a stewed smokiness, and even a trace of oxidation. Yet the palate still delivers some fruit and freshness, at least until the drab tannins overwhelm it. This has no future and must have been an honorable effort until a few years ago. It has lost its balance and zest, and the finish is drying by the minute. 83

Andrew Jefford: Deeply colored, but the wine is showing its age in terms of its hues—some bricking in the garnet. Rather stewy, kitchen-sinky aromas. Earthy, deep, gusty but somewhat muddled flavors. It is recognizably Nebbiolo in terms of its texture, but the fruit profile needs a careful rethink. 83

Peter Liem: This feels leafy and overly mature, without quite enough depth to counter its firm tannins. It would be better with food, which might ameliorate both its tannin and its prominent acidity. 79
