Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: Extraordinary mouthfeel, an incomparably velvety texture, and a charming, long minty finish. A real treasure that will be talked about for years to come. 19/19.5
John Gilman: Quite a powerful rendition of this fine estate but without any signs of the ripeness obscuring any of the potential purity that makes this great estate so beloved by claret fans. Superb nose of black cherries, blackberries, coffee bean, tobacco smoke, gravel, and a suave base of new oak. On the palate, the wine is deep, full-bodied, and quite powerful for Palmer, with a rock-solid core of fruit, very good focus and balance, substantial but well-integrated tannins, and excellent length and grip on the tangy finish. Stylistically, this will probably never be my favorite vintage at Palmer, since I tend to prefer this wine when it is at its most elegant, but there is no denying that the 2010 is beautifully made and does show extraordinary purity and focus for such a broad-shouldered wine. 2025–2100. 18.5
Michael Schuster: Lovely, ripe, seductive, “red and black” fruit; rich, concentrated, well structured, with a great depth of matter, fresh to lively acidity, deep, ripe, black fruit, and firm, fine tannin; long, pure, flowing—very complex, very vital, very fruit-cored, and very mineral aromatic; a most complete wine with terrific length. A grand, gravelly Palmer; taut, complete, aristocratic, vital, mouth-coatingly intense, and yet so light on its feet. Gorgeous wine, exhaustingly good. 2022–40+. 18/18.5
