Michael Schuster: Mature color, a touch of brick hue; pepper and minerals behind ripe black fruit on the nose, still youthfully discreet; wellbalanced, firm middleweight of moderate concentration and fine, firm tannin; mediumsweet, scented, complex, long in the mouth, elegant, and complete rather than grand, with a fine, light, scented-fruit persistence. Just starting to drink nicely but with at least a decade of improvement in hand. Firmer and more muscular than the ’96. Now to 2020 (January 2009). 16.5+
