Stephen Brook: Very deep red, almost opaque. Dumb nose. Has some richness on the palate, robust but not too harsh or extracted. Prominent black cherry fruit and firm but not hard tannins. Lacks zest but accessible and reasonably fruity, but not for cellaring. Medium length. No doubt the size and diversity of Lagrange’s vineyards aided selection. An honorable effort. 15
Stephen Browett: Medium-deep color. Ripe red fruits on the nose. The palate is impressively dense and concentrated, yet it is smooth and inviting. Rich and classy with good depth and plenty of structure too. All in all, there is excellent balance here, despite it being forward. Can be drunk soon but will be at its best in 5–10 years. A fine example of St- Julien. A modern, sexy version of classic claret. 16
Michael Schuster: Dark red; nicely balanced, cedary, nose; medium-full, firm but not overly tannic; ripe fruit, modest scope, quite juicy, no excess extract; easy, relatively fleshy character within the tannin, but also that 2003 lack of complexity and minerality; good fruity length. Fruit solidity rather than “class” here. From 2013. 15.5
