BUY THE WINE

Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Muted nose, cherries and a whiff of oak. Medium-bodied, quite sleek, has some freshness and persistence. Not an extracted style and it’s all rather understated, but the fruit quality is attractive. Not for cellaring, but balanced, well put together, and perfectly drinkable, which is more than you can say for many 2003 Margaux. Medium length. 15.5

Stephen Browett: Medium-deep color. Very expressive red fruit nose. There is lots to this with chewy cherry fruit and some backbone too. Long on the finish, this is well built and attractive. A polished effort. 16

Michael Schuster: Dark red; fine, cedary, new wood dominated nose; the texture and flavor of this wine very dominated by new oak, so much as to make it difficult to taste what seems to be good quality fruit behind. Medium length. Will it ever harmonize? I wouldn’t bet on it. Drink soonish if you like this chewily dry, oaky style. 14.5
