BUY THE WINE

Stephen Brook: Very deep red, almost opaque. Rich nose, plums, tobacco, touch of tar, robust. Much lighter on the palate than the nose suggests, a bit soupy, some rugged tannins and disjointed acidity. A touch corked, perhaps. Has some solid fruit but lacks lift and energy. Frankly dull, and fairly short. 12

Stephen Browett: Medium color, a bit rustic on the nose. Solid, quite dry and a bit harsh. Quite tannic for the vintage, Not a lot of fun right now. 13

Michael Schuster: Dark, brick-rimmed red; lightly mineral nose; nicely balanced, relatively supple, with a fine textured, dry tannin; fluid core of ripe fruit, with a very modest complexity and medium length; solid style. Needs 3–4 years, likely always to have this slightly “stolid” character, and lack of balancing complexity. From 2010. 14
