Michael Schuster: Inky black red; spicy, mineral, with an almost roasted, and faintly peppery character on the nose; very nicely balanced elegant middleweight with a gentle, finely judged tannin; sweet, freshly ripe fruit, subtly mineraly, long and classy, in the restrained, refined style of the best Pessac-Léognans, and with lovely, warm, spicy length. Very successful. 2015-25+. Yet more changes here: Jean-Luc Marchive (ex-L’Evangile, here from 1999) has left, and the property is now being directed by Stephen Carrier (half-Champenois, half-English, I gather, and most recently ex-Lynch-Bages), with Hubert de Bouard as a consultant, further extending the Right Bank influence on the Left Bank! However, it seems to be a good combination at Fieuzal, if the ’07 red and whites are anything to go by. Did I hear Gilles Maligne (the commercial director) correctly when he said they picked the Cabernet Sauvignon from the 17th to the 25th of October? Very Right Bank! 16.5+
