John Gilman: The 2010 Les Carmes Haut-Brion is another example of a wine seemingly trying to integrate both modern and traditional methods into its cellar technique and is pretty successful this vintage. The bouquet offers up a deep and ripe blend of sappy black cherries, cassis, chocolate, cigar smoke, and well-integrated spicy new oak. On the palate, the wine is deep, full-bodied, and fairly complex on the attack, with a good core of fruit and a long, tannic finish. Some of the tannins on the back end are derived from the new oak, but as long as this balance is maintained during the élevage, the wine probably has the stuffing to absorb them eventually. 2018–40. 15
