Nicolas Belfrage: Medium-deep, with edge tending to orange. Reduction on first sniff, slightly eggy; quality fruit comes through after breathing. Ripe sweet fruit on palate, with refreshing acidity giving it some length. Very “sour cherry.” Better palate than nose.14.5
Stephen Brook: Rich spicy exuberant nose, black cherries, some sweet oak. Medium-bodied, with fine acidity to give freshness; the tannins seem integrated, and there’s no lack of spice and vigor. Perhaps it lacks a little flesh and persistence, and it’s not very structured, so probably not for long cellaring. 15.5
Andrew Jefford: Deep clear red-black. Scents of wood varnish, shoe polish, and calfskin. Articulate, though the fruit seems aromatically recessive: evolved and secondary. After a while in the glass, it begins to smell of meat stock. Intense, penetrating, and acidic. Concentrated, though perhaps primarily by virtue of that acidity. Rather an austere and challenging style; tart finish. 13.5
