John Gilman: As Baptiste Guinaudeau explained, over the past several vintages, Pensées de Lafleur has evolved from a second wine that was made from a selection of barrels in the cellar that were not destined to go into the grand vin, into a wine that now hails from specific sections of the Lafleur vineyard. Like the grand vin in 2010, Pensées came in quite low in alcohol by the standards of the vintage. The wine is truly superb, offering up a complex and youthful nose of black cherries, plums, woodsmoke, stony soil tones, coffee beans, and just a bit of new oak. On the palate, the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex, and broad-shouldered, with a rock-solid core of fruit, ripe tannins, very good acidity, and most impressive length and grip on the youthfully closed finish. Superb juice. 2022–50. 18
