Stephen Brook: Gold. Subdued sulfur nose, with some wet-wool aromas. This should be showing more fruit at this stage. Quite sweet and silky on the palate: apricots and quince and mandarins, and some piquant acidity. But it’s not very concentrated and there’s little weight or complexity—and the finish is less ardent than it should be. Mandarins on the finish. Quite pretty, but I expect more from 2001. 14.5

Margaret Rand: Nice elegance; roasted, concentrated fruit; transparent. Dried apricots and some spice. A very nice wine, with a lovely finish, suffering slightly from coming after some utterly superb wines. This has lovely balance and minerality, complexity, and drinkability. 17

Michael Schuster: Mature gold; unusual toasty oak nose to smell, with fresh fruit behind; concentrated, vital, middleweight wine; very sweet and very fresh at once. Moderately complex palate, good length, but not at the top of the tree. Now to 2020+. 16
