Andrew Jefford: Clear, deep red in color. Plenty of warm, sweet red fruit on the aromas: raspberry and strawberry. The palate is soft, graceful, smooth (zero tannin here); yet there is plenty of inner warmth, unfussy acidity levels, and both alcohol and acidity seem seamlessly bonded to the fruit—finely crafted, with plenty of respect for the raw materials. Very Pinot, top to bottom. At the very end, there is a slightly peppery austerity that swings in, which would be useful in the mealtime context. Everything is right, yet there is a slight lack of central-palate fleshiness, which translates as a lack of charm. However, this is unquestionably a good to very good wine. Australia? 15.5
Anthony Rose: Mid-ruby in color. There’s some sweetish strawberry jam and coffee-bean oak on the nose here and, behind the typical Pinot Noir fragrance, some attractively sweet mulberry and strawberryish fruit with a perky freshness and nicely resolved tannins. There is a substantial backbone of acidity and tannin behind the fruit. Well-handled oak makes it still youthful. New Zealand. 16.5
Joanna Simon: Deep but bright. Showing lots of coffeeish oak on the nose, but clear, fresh plum and cherry fruit under. Oak-dominated palate, but a sense of fruit purity and brightness underneath. Sweet fruit. Highish but balanced alcohol. Fresh and savory finish. New Zealand? 16
