Andrew Jefford: Deep, red-black colors with some opacity. Quite a shy aromatic profile, but the allusions are attractive: apple, cherry, napped in cream. Soft, full, sustained palate, with evident inner warmth yet an attractively sappy, mouth-coating edge to the vivid crushed-cherry fruit. The balance seems very natural: a ripe Pinot, yet with plenty of concentration and poise; the acidity levels are adequate—it would have fine drinking qualities. A gently tarry finish. Not quite intricate enough for a high score but plenty of pleasure sealed up inside this bottle. New Zealand? 15.5
Anthony Rose: Deep-hued in color; a little indistinct, even closed, in its aromatic profile. Behind the dark-fruit quality, the acidity is fairly marked, even to the point of being quite sharp, while the tannins are quite firm, the oak is well handled and not overt, and overall there’s a nice richness in the middle feel of this wine, with slightly marked acidity and tannin relative to the fruit quality. Australia. 16
Joanna Simon: Deep color. Fragrant, spicy, almost Gewürz-like aromas. Full, ripe, rich cherry fruit on palate, with spice and touches of cocoa and Turkish delight. Shows its tannin, oak, and alcohol in a slightly chunky way. Australia? 14
