Andrew Jefford: Clear, bright black-red in color. Aromas of great warmth and complexity: very enticing. Lots of red fruits, underbrush, and laurel, with some faint woodspice (sandalwood, frankincense), but all very subtly and very harmoniously achieved. A touch of basmati also. Genuine aromatic width and complexity here. Bright, full, structured, arching fruit flavors (strawberry and redcurrant), with some of those aromatic subtleties lending support. The weight and width are very well judged, and happily there is a tannic presence, too. A finely crafted Pinot and a real success. It has a frame and a dimension you wouldn’t find in Burgundy, but aesthetically it is much more successful than most Burgundy, and it offers qualities that are absolutely on target for Pinot-lovers. New Zealand? 16
Anthony Rose: Good youthful ruby hue. Attractively sweet primary red-berry fruits on the nose, backed by a nice freshness. Similarly, some good primary strawberry and mulberry fruit on the palate, with a nice clarity of expression backed by balancing fresh acidity and supple sweet tannins. There’s a bit of a young-vine feel to the primary fruit, more two- than three-dimensional in its expression, perhaps. Australia. 16.5
Joanna Simon: Meaty, animal nose. A slight prickle and then a hit of sweet, sharp fruit on the palate. Quite big and alcoholic, but Brett (?) standing too close to the boundary. Australia? 8
