Stephen Brook: Very deep brick red. Lively meaty, gamey nose, but not oxidized. Medium-bodied for Barolo but has freshness and some vibrancy and a welcome limpidity. It’s no blockbuster, but all the structural components are present. Perhaps the tannins are slightly dry, but overall this is harmonious, spicy, and long - 16.5
Jancis Robinson: Dark crimson. Unusual fireworks/cordite notes on the nose. And just a suggestion of stewed fruit. Is this a terroir effect? This is certainly a distinctive wine. I suspect it’s a love-or-loathe wine. I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt. I suspect I would appreciate it more if I knew where it came from. Drink 2014–20 - 16
