Nicolas Belfrage: Very deep; almost opaque. Lots of oak on the nose; little to suggest Nebbiolo. Predictably low acidity, meaning that the wine falls flat on the finish. Great oak, but that isn’t what Barolo is supposed to be about - 13
Stephen Brook: Very deep plum red, no brick tones. Lush spicy plummy nose; a bit tarry but not stewed. Rich, opulent, sumptuous, with admirable concentration and depth. The tannins are very ripe, and the acidity supports and lifts the rather chocolaty, smoky fruit. Dense, weighty, and complex, without being heavy-handed or overextracted. This has power, spice, vigor, and terrific length - 18
Jancis Robinson: Blackish crimson. Sweet black-cherry nose is not what I expect of Barolo! Dusty. Sweet. Too much winemaking and not enough vineyard. Drink 2015–19 - 14
