Nicolas Belfrage: Deep, almost opaque. Rich plum pudding, baked-apple aromas. Possibly bruised apple. Rich, ripe palate of some complexity, firm tannin base, ripe fruit—perhaps a touch overripe. Wine out of balance. Not sure it will recover. 13.5
Andrew Jefford: Dark red but entirely translucent. Lots of sweet, rounded fruit lent complexity by soft spice and ripe citrus: highly attractive aromas. Full-flavored palate; almost nutty, mealy tannins, as if they had been mixed with pounded almonds; very solid if round-contoured, soft-focus red fruits. Broad-shouldered, generous Barolo, with plenty of secondary complexities already and more on the way. A satisfying, chewy, chunky wine among its peers; and the grand ripeness of the vintage is very well captured here. 17
Franco Ziliani: Very dark color, almost inky, too concentrated and dark for my taste. Very extractive nose, with ripe fruit and some green and oaky notes. The taste is very simple, short on the finish. No great harmony, richness, or complexity. A good “Barolino” but no more... 15
