Nicolas Belfrage: Medium depth of color; some oranging on rim. Some pungency on nose, mineral with a touch of “tar”; good persistence. Acidity noticeable on attack, opens out but still a little hollow on finish. Tannins correct but not excessive. Has some length but needs to farsi. Drink 2012–20 - 15
Stephen Brook: Very deep brick red. Surprisingly rich plummy nose: voluptuous but also tarry. The attack is soft, but acidity and tannin soon creep up on the palate. It’s a rather massive style, with less persistence than expected and a plump texture. There’s some spice on the aftertaste, but this isn’t the most structured or complex wine, despite the depth of color and aromatic richness. It’s certainly more forward than I would expect in this vintage, but it’s juicy and enjoyable. (Coming back to it after some aeration, it showed more length and freshness.) - 15
Jancis Robinson: Notably dark. Lots of fruit and really rather modern in its concentration. Then marked acidity and very smooth texture. Lots of early pleasure here and really rather luscious fruit. Finishes fresh, and I suspect it will go on to become more complex. But it is not especially persistent. Drink 2011–18 - 15
