Tim Atkin: Youthful purple/ruby. Dense, alcoholic, faintly resinous nose. Lots of oak and fruit on the palate, but the two don’t quite meet in the middle—yet. Maybe this just needs some time, because it’s got good acidity and plenty of sweet blackberry fruit. Come back in a year or two 16.5
Stephen Brook: Opaque red. Dense plummy nose; mint thins and vanilla. Rich and suave on the palate, with fine texture allied to lively acidity. There’s no overripeness, and though not exactly Rhône-ish, it shows a lighter touch than most, without any loss of concentration. The spicy, lightly chocolaty finish and the discreet tannic grip add to the personality of the wine. Quite good length 16.5
Alex Hunt: This nose is closed and forbidding but seems to be hiding some tired, raisined fruit. The palate is thick-textured and relies more on mint than acidity for freshness—itself no bad thing. There is not a lot of complexity or detail, however 14
