BUY THE WINE

Tim Atkin: Mid-ruby/purple. Aromatic, primary nose, with lots of berry fruit. Sweet fruit, with incense and violet on the palate. Fresh acidity, but the wine doesn’t really hang together. Tannins just a little drying. Simple fruit flavors 15

Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Both sweet and cabbagy on the nose, which is not a very beguiling combination. Quite rich but rather soft and flabby, with a dead-fruit character that’s dispiriting. There is some succulence and a burst of acidity, but this lacks harmony and finesse, and there is an excess of off-aromas and flavors. Medium length 13

Alex Hunt: An odd nose: Porty, overripe fruit mixed with citrus and pine notes that recall air freshener. The palate is dry and dusty, though the structural balance is absolutely fine. Overall, a satisfying glass of red wine but not a compelling account of Syrah 14
