Alex Hunt: Toasty wood cleverly shaded into a fairly savory fruit style, and a tiny touch of reduction for brightness; good nose. The palate, too, is savory and mineral, with enough plumpness and a fine enough balance that the lack of fruit per se is not troubling. Rather, this is a rocky, appetizing wine that successfully highlights a particular side of Cabernet Franc’s character. It would be even better with a little less alcohol on the finish- 16
Andrew Jefford: Saturated black-red. Dark, earthy, full, gutsy, with some mineral qualities. Interesting and provocative. This is a very different incarnation of Cabernet Franc to high-latitude Loire, with greater evident ripeness; smells slightly sulfur-ruffled and basaltic but intriguing. Meaty-yeasty. A little Marmitey. Interesting: a luscious, very sweet-fruited bass line, yet at the same time it has quite a prominent acid line that may be adjusted; if so, it has been done with some subtlety, since it doesn’t jar or burn. Darkly intriguing, with a black-chocolate finish, this excellent wine shows that Cabernet Franc has a promising future in terroirs other than the Loire- 16.5
Simon Larkin: Much more savory on the nose, meaty almost. The palate shows a good bright fruit, ripe, fresh and appealing. It lacks much generosity and reveals an odd ungainly nature. Edgy leafy fruit and little beyond. Clips short on finish- 8
