Alex Hunt: The nose reveals serious depth and ambition. It’s fairly closed at this stage, but the fruit component is fresh, dark, and intense, while there’s some subtle oak creaminess that underpins, rather than smothers, the fruit. After this, the palate is surprisingly open and engaging, with the rich yet almond-balanced feel of the best plum jam. There is genuine intensity rather than muscular concentration here, and the balance is ideal up until a slightly acidtwinged finish - 17
Andrew Jefford: Saturated dense black-red. Quite a lot of oak here, and the oak slightly has the upper hand over the fruit. Nonetheless, black fruit there is, and it seems impressively deep and meaningful. On the palate, by contrast, this is slightly one-dimensional, with livid acidity and a lack of central palate width. That shaping oak is still very forceful, too. I’m not sure the wine can quite take the handling it has had - 13.5
Jancis Robinson: Very dark purple. Intense, opulent. Animal and then with lots of acidity, but not a very comfortable whole. Very marked green acidity. Rhubarb flavors. Falls off on the finish. Drink 2014–20 - 15.5
