Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Ripe and smoky berry fruits on the nose, with some coffee tones from the oak. Broad and voluptuous, creamy and rich, a sumptuous style of Zinfandel, though enlivened by good acidity. Yet it’s surprisingly assertive for all the opulence, and this keeps it from being blowsy or heavy. There’s a trace of alcohol on the finish, but it’s not too pronounced and doesn’t unbalance the wine, which shows power, panache, and length 18
Alex Hunt: A rich, resonant nose, with a subtly appealing overlay of coconut oak. The palate, while tannic, is fine-grained and very well balanced, framing classic plum-jam Zinfandel fruit in a sophisticated structure. Impressive proof of Zin’s capacity to make fine wine without sacrificing its inherent character 17.5
Anthony Rose: Good, rich, evolved color; lovely nose, with excellent depth of spices, coconut, and red-fruit sweetness. This is followed on the palate by a delightful succulence of red-fruit flavors, with a spicy undertone and really supple, evolved, textured fruit suffused with spicy, intense flavors and a beautifully balanced structure of textured tannins and evolved, yet fresh, acidity. This hugely drinkable red is the kind of wine that could give California Zinfandel a good name 18.5
