Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Sweet, delicate, berry nose, not very defined but has some charm. Medium-bodied, sleek, quite concentrated, with nicely integrated tannins and acidity, which counters a hint of soupiness. Yet this isn’t overblown or heavy-handed, and the acidity gives some intensity and poise. Overall, it’s a wine that plays safe and lacks a little excitement. Chewy, chocolaty finish 15.5
Alex Hunt: On the nose, a clear statement of superripeness, in a Porty (rather than raisiny) style: summer-fruit compote, kirsch, lots of alcohol, and a dusky brightness suggesting figs. The palate has purity and structural balance on its own terms, but I find the flavors weighted too far toward the sweet, heavy side. It’s intelligent but needs to take more exercise 14.5
Anthony Rose: Medium ruby, with a light pepper and spicy nose; the fruit here is typically sweet, with a touch of cola spiciness and a relatively juicy, supple texture that finishes with quite firm, rustic, dry tannins and fairly hefty alcohol, thus a tad short and tough—but perfectly good with the right sort of hearty fare 14.5
